THE BACKSTREET BOYS BACKGROUND COMES FROM THE UNOFFICAL BACKSTREET BOYS BOOK. Some say it was Aj, Howie and Nick all living in the area, working in and around the Disney and MGM attractions that form the nucleus of the city and attending all sorts of auditions and castings for work at these major studios. AJ and Howie happened to share the same singing teacher, who changed the curs of pop history by introducing his two students to each other. They clicked instanly and would regularly meet up and attend auditions together. That's when they got chatting to a young, blond, cute-looking surfer type called nick carter who was attending all the same auditions too. the three lads began whiling away the hours waiting for their names to be called by singing the temptations songs together a cappalla. as you can imagine the results were pretty impressive and the trio soon began to gain a reputation in entertain ment circles as "those three guys who sing harmonies all the time." Meanwhile, Kevin had grown bored of singing in a local Top 40 covers band back home in kentucky and had packed his bags and headed for Orlando to seek success on a bigger scale. First stop was a job as a tour guide at Disney World, followed by parts as Aladdin and a Ninja Turle. It wasn't too much funwearing those costumes in the blazing heat of Florida, but it paid the rent and it also meant Kev had tons of free time to work on his singing and songwriting. It wasn't long before one of his new friends heard his singing voice and was so impressed that he suggested Kevin meet up with another group of guys he knew who sang mean harmonies.Kevin hokked up with AJ, NICK, AND HOWIE, and they agreed that Kevin's voice fitted in so well with their style group that he just had to join their group. It wasn't long before an ad in the local news paper-New record company seeks talent for new boy band-caught the boys' eyes. The ad had been placed by Lou Pearlman, cousin of Art Garfunkel (one half of seventies duo simon and Garfunkel) and music-obessed local busimen, who had decided to set up his own record company, track down the best talent in Orlando and turn his proteges into a supergroup to rival eighties phenomenon New Kids on the Block. Pearlman was inundated with applications from local pop hopefuls but he narrowed them down to the best 50 and held auditions at his mansion in June 1992. Four of the boys who turned up to the audition totally blew Lou Pearlman away. He knew he'd find some talent kids but these guys surpassed even his expectations. AJ was the first to be told he had a place-he was just 14 at the time, but Pearlman was impressed by his dance moves and wacky personality. Next was Howie who had years of acting and singing experience under his belt voice and good looks. the there was Kevin, who had bot the looks and the songwritng skill of a potential star. But everyone agreed that a fifth member was needed to complete the line-up. No one suitable had been found through the auditions, but Kevin had an idea-he called up his cousin Brian, whom he knew would fit in perfectly with the sound his new band members was trying to create. Brian will never forget the day he was sitting in history class and heard his name, but when he got to the phone and heard his cousin's excited voice telling him to get himself down to Orlando as soon as he could, he realized that this was a once-in-a-lifetime chance, boarded a plane, and arrived in Orlando as soon as he could. Of coyrs, his voice worked like magic with the other four. Brian signed on the dotted line and Backstreet boys was born. Once the band members got to know each other they tryed to get a record deal. They were first signed to Mercury Records, but were heart broken to be dropped soon after words when it was felt that the music climate in the US at the time was such that a new boy band was just not going to be accepted. But their dissappointment didn't last long, they were snapped up straight away by Jive Records.(JIVE RECORDS LATER BETRAYED THE BACKSTREET BOYS BY SIGNING THEIR BIGGEST COMPETITION NSYNC.........LATER THE BACKSTREET BOYS GOT A NEW CONTRACT WITH JIVE THAT IS NOW WORTH 60,000,000 DOLLARS!)
